  Ibsen

This is the amazing story about our Ibsen.

Ibsen is actually our first Maine Coon. We travelled a long way into Sweden in 2004 to pick him up. He stayed with us until he was 9 months old, when suddenly one day he disappeared on us. I was certain he was stolen, no doubt in my heart. We searched all over for our cat, put in ads in the local paper and on the internet. We hung posters all over our little town and looked for him day and night for months.
Eventually we had to give up; we didn’t think he would ever come back to us.
For two years and one month he was gone, when on October 11th 06 I get a phone call from an internet acquaintance –
“I’ve found your cat!!”.

Ibsen his first day back with his true family

I was driving my car at the moment, and had to pull over so I wouldn’t total the car right there from the shock! Because of his microchip it was possible to trace Ibsen back to our family. He was 7,5 miles away in Drammen. I believe he has lived with the people who stole him for all this time until this last summer. Something must have happened because he showed up at this lady’s home, skinny, full of ticks and with lumpy fur. She fed him and medicated him but worried about the winter because she couldn’t take care of him herself. She called the local cat-rescue association and when they scanned him, the way home to Strømmen was not long :0)
We immediately took the 1,5 hour trip to Drammen and was reunited with Ibsen the same day….WHAT a feeling!

I don’t know how to thank the people who helped get our Ibsen back to us.
Shira – a forum acquaintance who happened to have read about my missing cat at one time and who put two and two together.
The lady who fed and sheltered Ibsen for two months while he was astray -  and Dyreværnsnemda in Drammen who took the time to come have a look at the cat, and who had the equipment to identify him.
Thank you, every one of you.

We were interviewed by both the local paper in Drammen where he was found and the local paper where we live. You can have a look at the articles below.

In the beginning Ibsen settled down just fine with us, but the tension between him and the other cats became worse to the point where he just wasn't happy living with us. He has now moved to a family with no other cats where he gets all the LTC he needs.
We are very happy for him but we miss him terribly.
A fter all he was our first Maine Coon and we're very proud of him.
